Listbuilding is not just for MLM

When many people think of listbuilding, the first thing that comes to mind is an MLM network. Although in pre-computer days, it was logical to think of listbuilding as part of the MLM recruitment process, the age of computers has changed all of that. Today many businesses, especially online businesses, incorporate this process into their advertising campaigns. Listbuilding helps any business keep a list of current and potential customers, a necessary part of becoming successful in any venture.

Whenever you utilize listbuilding for your business, you need to develop a plan rather than just going into it blindly without knowing what you really need to do. Planning will allow you to identify your target audience in order to allow you to build a list that is geared toward those within your target audience. By working with those who may be interested in your goods or services, you save the time and expense of attempting to build a list based on blind perception.

For those involved in an MLM network, the process of listbuilding is more focused on a list of potential prospects for recruitment, but the process is similar. It’s still important to identify those people that may benefit from the goods or services you sell. The only difference is you are listbuilding to develop a database of customers rather than a database of potential recruits. Listbuilding for MLM may not necessarily drive your recruits to your website, but rather to the website of the organization you represent.

Having a successful business of any kind, whether traditional online or MLM, requires learning successful methodology in listbuilding. It is not a task you will learn immediately but one you will develop over time, beginning with the identification of your target audience. Once you identify your target audience, your listbuilding efforts should revolve around an advertising campaign that will reach your target audience, contacting those prospects that show interest, and follow up contacts.

Listbuilding is not a one-time effort but one you need to continue in order to ensure the success of your business. After all any advertising campaign must be ongoing in order to be worthwhile—listbuilding is no different nor is it defined as anything other than another way to advertise your business and create a database of prospects or customers interested in you and what you can do for them.
